Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp said his side's third-place finish in the league club standings was a "pride" after exceeding Aston Villa to draw 3-3 on Monday in the 37th round of the competition.
Klopp said after the game: "I know this is the last time, but I don't feel it. The crowd that accompanied the team here stadium Villa Park is always crazy. It's a great relationship.
After Liverpool lifted the League Cup last February, it looked like the team could win the league title, but Klopp's hopes were dashed after a series of poor results last month.
Given his season, the German coach said that finishing third was still a matter of pride. He added: "Where we come from, third place is also a good position.
For me, the story of the season is that the players have a really good character and an exciting approach, that's why we were here today and that's why we now have 79 points.
He continued: "I'm not happy about this, but obviously we had to accept for a week or two that we can't be the best or second-best team in the league, but that's a good basis for the future and that's everything you can ask for."
Liverpool host Wolverhampton Wanderers next Sunday in the German coach's final match at Anfield.
